Every trading card game I know of has some negative aspect to it, so if you’re looking only for positive themes in TCGs, you may have to look long and hard for one. All TCGs pit you against an opponent, so there is always an antagonistic quality. The only TCG I know of from ancient history that had a clean and pure quality was Redemption, which was actually based on the biblical idea of good overcoming evil. However, there were still demons in it which both players were seeking to overcome.

If you are looking for something that does not have an “evil” theme to it, I would recommend a science fiction game. TCGs that come to mind of a sci-fi nature are Galactic Empires, Netrunner, Pokémon, Rocketmen: Axis of Evil, Star of the Guardians, Star Quest and Super Nova. None of these are available in stores, as they went by the wayside many years ago. You may be able to find collections or cards on eBay or someplace like that.

There are a couple of fantasy games that don’t have a decidedly evil theme as well. My favorite is Towers in Time, which has an elemental theme. Each of the creatures and spells in this game follow the four basic elements of air, earth, fire and water. Sim City CCG, which is based on the popular computer simulation game, has players taking turns playing cards that simulate building a city. You get money for each card you play, and there are a number of ways to score. Again, these games are no longer available in retail stores. Hope this was helpful. – LJS
