Happy ‘08 and welcome back. Here’s hoping 2008 will be a good year for each of you out there, and that each of you have something to be thankful for in ‘07. For me, that is of course SpaceKitty. Living in the Midwest, the weather gets at it’s worst in Jan / Feb, so the start of each new year is always a rough one. I’ll be thankful if I don’t freeze to death between now and March / April, but I remain hopeful that a new job may get me in from the cold. This year had a wonderful beginning seeing as I got to spend it with SpaceKitty and, God willing, it will be the year that I get out of the Midwest.
I don’t really do the whole ‘resolutions’ thing, but that’s not to say there’s not improvements that I wish to make in this year. My credo for ‘08 is simple: “Have patience. Have faith. Be positive.” I’m not going to resolve to update my website every week or any silly thing like that. If anything, I’m aware that I ought to give my website a backseat more often to the more pressing concerns in life. My site tends to be a place I can go to relax and escape, and while we all need such a place, it’s always best in moderation.
Gaming wise I can’t say I’m looking forward to a heck of a lot this year, short of Brawl and maybe Fallout 3. Frankly ‘07 had so many AAA hits around the holiday that I’ll be busy catching up for quite some time to come. As I’ve been doing for some time now, I plan on playing and finishing each game / book / etc one at a time and not worrying about any others until I’m through. It’s done wonders for the sense of being overwhelmed by choices and backlog, not to mention the satisfaction of seeing the ending credits and shelving the title.
Another December, and while I hate to see the snow and ice return, there’s always some joy to be had in the lights and various decorations around the town. The snow can indeed be pretty as well, but as said, less so when you have to deal with it every day. My holiday season just got a lot better however since I found out SpaceKitty is coming down from California to spend the New Years. It’ll be a quiet celebration with some dinner, perhaps taking in the local festival of lights, and probably some fun out in the snow. Short of being back in San Diego, I can’t imagine a better way to spend the occasion.
Finished up The Subtle Knife and now I’m on to The Amber Spyglass. Subtle Knife ended as action packed as it began, I think it will be my favorite book of the series. Thankfully Amber Spyglass is quite lengthy, so there should be plenty of room to finish the story properly. I have to say, I’m already wondering how the movie will possibly do this series justice. Having rewatched the trailer after finishing the book however, I believe they’re going to make a very good attempt at it.
The first of the new Futurama movies are out, and while I haven’t watched it yet, I will soon. SpaceKitty is a huge fan of the series and has already seen, she says good things about it. I’m glad to see more episodes of the series, but the lackluster return of Family Guy often makes me wonder if these shows ought to simply stay dead. We’ll see, I guess. Reminds me that I really ought to check out the Serenity book after finishing up a few other picks, some day soon.
