Spider Man 4 The Movie

Spider Man 4 the movie is officially on the radar screen and will be arriving at a theater near you on May 5, 2011. We still don’t know much about the plans for the new epic, but here’s what we know so far:

First, Toby Maguire has been signed to continue to star both for the 4th and 5th installments of the drama of the human spider. Readers will recall that his acting in the third film was panned for being unintuitive and uninspired. This, in serious contrast to the incredible work he did in the second film. One hopes the problem was a poorly written script, but we can’t know for sure until we see the newest film.

We also know for certain that Sam Raimi, who has been with the franchise from the start will be around for the next film as well and that a change has been made in the writing team for the movie. Pulitzer prize winning playwright David Lindsay-Abaire, who is known for his work on Rabbit Hole has been tapped to pen the newest film; a bit of good news for fans who got tired of seeing Spiderman dancing around the buildings of New York City and would like to see Maguire show us some solid acting and see some serious drama in the film.

Other than that, everything we know or think we know about Spider Man 4 the movie is pure speculation and possibly fan’s wishful thinking. The biggest question is who the villain will be that Spidey will have to face off against this time. Some fans are seriously hoping for a revival of venom, one going so far as to make a fake trailer showing Venom having survived by taking over another body, but those in the know feel it’s unlikely that he will be revived.

Another rumor about the film has Burn Notice star Jack Campbell possibly playing Mysterio, the master illusionist who tormented Spider Man in the comics by making him think his aunt had died.

The most prevalent rumor however has the one armed professor Dr. Curt Connor finally regrowing his arm and turning into arch villain The Lizard for the latest movie.

And in a sop to Venom fans, it turns out that at least one source which claims to have an inside track has said that the Lizard will be joined by Carnage, a serial killer who is inhabited by the spawn of Venom.

Who is right? Who is wrong? Stay tuned to find out. Spiderman 4 the movie will be in theaters May 5, 2011.
