cat6 – Can I use a single CAT-6 UTP cable for both LAN and telephone which is controlled by PABX system? – Super User

I did it by myself at my home with Cat 5e and it is working well for more than 2 years. it actually work because of telephony frequencies don’t have enought signal power to affect ethernet frequencies from one pair to another inside the cable causing Crosstalk (and the vice-versa, ethernet won’t affect your telephony). Just pay atention to the fact that it will only work with 10/100(FastEthernet speed), a Gigabit network will use all of your 4 wire pairs.

Here is a quick reference:

This is made possible because of the wasteful (some may say “spare”) wires in cat-5 cable.

Cat 5 cable and RJ-45 jacks have eight wires. Ethernet uses two pairs (four wires), one for send and one for receive. Telephones use two wires.

Therefore, you can run both ethernet and telephone over the same wire, and still have two wires left over.

In fact, you could run two Ethernet jacks from a single cat-5 cable, or four telephone lines (though I don’t know why you would run multiple phone lines.)

This Instructable will focus on changing wall plates from one RJ-45 (Ethernet) jack into one RJ-45 and one RJ-11 (phone) jack.

Note that I have not done extensive testing with cross-talk between phone and ethernet, though I have seen no degradation in the quality of either when both are in use.

Also note that this procedure will not work with PoE (Power over Ethernet) devices. nothing bad will happen, it just won’t transmit power. See step 13 for a possibly unsafe way to keep your PoE and add phone service. Also, it will not work with gigabit ethernet– gigabit ethernet uses all four pairs. it will work fine at 10/100 Mbps which is sufficient for most people.

Computer Networking with CAT Cables and RJ ConnectorsIt is a wired world and there’s no denying that we cannot survive without them! To know about these cables in details we would need to know about the things that connect to them.

Computer Networking – what is it?

The engineering discipline that is connected to the communication between computer systems or devices is referred to as computer networking. Theory and practical applications of these engineering and scientific disciplines form the core of computer networks.

Houston, TX (PRWEB) July 13, 2012 Kate Beckinsale is another actress high on the celebrity smoker list. And it seems that she has no plans of quitting it. According to a report from dailymail.co.uk, she was pictured with a cigarette while shopping in Los Angeles. But as Solar Cigarette...

Basically a computer network is made up of a set of devices or computers that are connected to each other. these devices have the ability to exchange data. some of the networks are local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN) and wireless local area network and wireless wide area network (WLAN and WWAN). Networks are connected to each other in order to allow communication with a whole range of media. these include optical fiber, twisted copper wire cable Lebron 9 Sale, coaxial cable and other technologies.

Also known as the Ethernet cable sometimes, CAT 5 is short for Category 5 cable. This cable is a preferred choice for telephone and network wiring. the CAT 5 cable is an unshielded wire that contains four pairs of 24 gauge twisted copper pairs that terminate in a RJ-45 jack. available in a variety of colors, the CAT-5 is made out of twisted pairs of wires that are sheathed in plastic with a standard color scheme. Sound and interference is reduced considerably because of these twisted pairs of wires. these cables can be bought off a spool in various lengths or pre-cut to standard lengths along with a RJ-45 cable attached.

The computer networking cable that we are talking about replaced the CAT 3 cable because it was only able to carry at speeds of up to 10 megabits per second. Thankfully, the CAT 5 cable supports data speeds of 100 mbps or more. Apart from networks and telephones Nike Air Yeezy 2, this cable can be used for other purposes. these cables have three configurations meant for wiring with RJ-45 connectors or pin outs. the cable runs from a computer to a switch and then goes straight into a cable. it can be bought from electronic shops, home improvement shops and computer outlets. even CAT 6 cables can be found in the market Lebron James Shoes, these cables are a standard for Gigabit Ethernet and network protocols that are backward compatible with the CAT 5/5E and CAT 3 cable standards.

Types of Computer Networks
There are different types of Computer Networking that you may need for your home or office. To begin with you have the option of a wired or wireless computer network. These types of networks differ. A wired computer network will have copper or fiber optic cabling running between computers while...

As the name suggests, the (Registered Jack) RJ45 is a connector that is used for network cables. these connectors are usually seen with Ethernet cables and network cable kits. the RJ-45 connector has eight pins to which the wire strands of a cable interface electrically. there are a few standard designs for these connectors and their wiring; they are RJ11, RJ14 etc. the only connector that is not the modular connector type is the RJ21X, it is a 25-pair Amphenol connector.

Both the ends of the cable are joined to the rj 45 connector. the other end of the connector is connected with the LAN card of the computer and the other end to a switch or hub. To test the performance of the cables, cable testers are used. there are many other connectors that look like the RJ45 connector and can be closely confused for it. One such connector is the RJ-11 connector that connects to telephone cables.

There are many other cables and connectors in the market such as the USB network cable, which is used to connect two personal computers.相关的主题文章:

Learning About Cat 5 Enhanced Network Cables

If you are looking to connect to the internet it is not important that you know all the lingo and ins and out so the market, because there are a ton of people out there who will install your internet and lay your cat 5 enhanced network cables for you. Now, if you do not know a lot about the internet you will probably not know what a cat 5 cable is. In this article we are going to explain what a cat 5 enhanced network cables are and what cat 5 enhanced network cabling is used for.

When the internet first started out in the world the cat 5 was not used yet. The internet run directly through your telephone line, and the internet connection you had was called a dial up connection, or dial up internet. this was the only type od internet around at the time and there was no such thing as ADSL yet.

The dial up connection, because it was the first around, was made to cut your telephone line whenever you wanted to server the net. it forced your line to close and cancel any incoming calls. this was mainly because the internet itself was a call that you were paying for, otherwise known as a data call. this means that you could not get income and make outgoing calls.

These days, with cat 5 enhanced network cables you are able to connect to the internet without disrupting your telephone line with cat 5 enhanced network cabling your line would be split into two part, the voice part and the data part. You will find that your internet connection would also have to go through a router.

The internet is not the only thing you get when you use this type of cable, especially if you have a router. If you do not have an internet connection, but you have a router and a few computers to hook up, you will be able to use your cat 5 cables to connect each of your home or office computers to a network, otherwise known as a Local Area Network or a LAN.

These cable, however, are not only used in your home or in your office. They are also used in the ATM you draw your money at every morning. You will find however, that the cat 5 are being replaced by the cat 5e cables for faster connection speeds for ATM’s. it does not end there though, because some banks are making use of cat 6 cables which gives them an even faster connection speed, so that you do not have to spend more time at the ATM than you need to.

You will also find that a cat 7 cable is under construction, but this will not be released for some time, as the speeds of the internet at the moment are not fast enough to make use of this, more expensive version. The speeds are getting better though, but for now, the cat 5 enhanced network cables are all you need in your home.

What is CAT 5 cable

The CAT 5 cable is the cable which had been designed for the networking purpose but the cable is mainly used for the Ethernet purpose and its networking among the other computers. It had been found out that if the cable is of greater quality then the signals can be easily transmitted and at the same time the person does not have to go through any sort of problems. This cable is based on the technological aspects of Ethernet and is found to be the cable which had been evolved on the 5th generational number of the Ethernet cables. The cable had been designed in a twisted pair form which is to be connected to the computer. It had been found out that CAT 5 cable had been very popularly used among many people.

The cable contains copper wires in it which makes it secure from the happening of any sort of accident. The cable tends to contain about 4 different pairs of wire in it and all the pairs are of copper. The cable is found to be used for a longer time period but particularly the cable is only available in about 100 meters. This length of the cable can be used by the person as it’s the normal availability of the cable.

On the other hand integrity and reliable are the two main features which are possessed by the cables as they as can be used by the person on comfortable basis. The Ethernet connection is sued on a higher speed with the presence of the CAT 5 cable having four pairs of different cable but it had been found out that the fast internet connections are usually using the two pair Ethernet cable. some of the specification of this cable had been changed and the new form of this cable had been invented which is known as the CAT 5e cable.

Canford’s newly launched Cat5e breakout boxes and multicore cables have been branded the CatKit range, it was announced at PLASA. The devices feature 4 or 8 way, Cat 5 connectivity with the CAT5E Multicore cable also available in 4 or 8 way versions and come in multiple standard lengths with custom lengths made to order. also launched were Fibre Optic breakout boxes. Both types are intended for applications where a tough resilient solution is required.

The new CatKit range is intended for multiple uses in the live production, touring and outside broadcast environments. The first production versions have already been successfully deployed at the Chelsea Flower show, BBC Radio 1’s big Weekend and at the ‘mud bath’ that was this year’s Glastonbury Festival.

Canford’s new breakout boxes have a rugged steel construction and are designed to withstand the rigours of a touring production. All feature metal end plates and bottom skid bars for added protection and employ tough Neutrik etherCON connectors. This means the whole cable run right up to the operator is of the most robust construction possible but still permits the use of standard RJ45 patchcords for that last metre or so into the laptop or other device.

The Optical fibre boxes use the same rugged construction as the CAT5 units. The end connection is an opticalCON Quad connector and can be custom made by Canford with any combination of ST, LC, SC or opticalCON DUO connectors.

To further aid in easy roll out of Cat 5 cable, Canford have designed 4 and 8 way multicore Ethernet cables which are available terminated with the stage boxes or ‘stand alone’. The Cat5e multicore cables come as standard in 25m, 50m and 75m lengths. Canford are also offering a custom build service where customers can specify the lengths of the cables and tails.

The multicore Ethernet cables employ Canford’s reduced size CAT5E-F-M, designed specifically for installations where a high quality but very flexible screened Category 5E cable is required. The core construction and jacket material is identical to CAT5E-F; the difference is only in the jacket thickness. The individual cables are collected within a tough outer sleeve enabling their uses in deployable applications. Each cable is individually numbered to aid termination.

What Matters in an RS232, RS422, RS485 Or Fiber Optic Converter

Anyone dealing with serial and USB conversion issues knows that data signal conversion between different protocols can be tricky. Serial data communication originated many years before we came to expect the plug-and-play convenience of modern systems and interface standards. in the past, determining if a device was DTE (data terminal equipment) or DCE (data communication equipment) was an issue, you had to deal with handshaking protocols, and you needed a fairly detailed knowledge of all the various signals. Today’s USB, RS232, RS485 and RS422 converters, in conjunction with much smarter software, make things a lot easier, but it’s still good to know what you’re dealing with. So here are some answers to commonly asked questions.

You may see converter vendors advertise SMT circuitry as a selling point. SMT stands for Surface Mount Technology, which allows for significantly smaller currents and thus less heat. less heat means longer component life and thus higher reliability and lower total cost of ownership.

Another question that frequently comes up is whether you can unplug a connector while it is being used. The answer is yes if the converter has a data receiver protection circuit. If you need your converter(s) to be hot-pluggable, make sure whatever you buy offers data receiver protection.

Anytime you deal with converters, you may need end-of-line termination so as to prevent interference on the data line. The problem is that termination increases the load on the data circuit, so it’s generally best to use a terminator only at higher data rates (over 19.2hbps or on lines over 200 meters).

While RS-232 cables are pretty standard, people often ask what kind of cable to use for RS-422 and RS-485 connections. The answer is that in most cases inexpensive CAT 5 cables will work just fine. they generally exceed RS-422/RS485 recommendations and are an excellent choice.

Technology changes all the time, and one thing that has changed is the power of COM ports on new computers. Older systems used -12VDC whereas most newer ones use -8VDC. Before you buy, check converter specs to make sure they support the lower voltage. Many new laptops, and even some new desktops, no longer have serial ports and require USB-to-RS232 cables that create a virtual COM port. Converters generally work with those cables, but it makes sense to inquire before you buy a converter.

Almost all electronic circuitry is sensitive to electrostatic discharge. The charged capacitance of a human body is actually enough to destroy an integrated circuit in an instant. That’s why good converters have static protection circuits. Note, however, that those are not surge suppressors. If you have an outdoor installation, you want to use an opto-isolated converter to protect your computer. Opto-isolators (which, however, require additional power supplies) work by inserting an optical bridge that eliminates transient surges.

Another question that frequently comes up is whether or not to use fiber optic systems. Fiber optics, of course, use light instead of electricity. This means a number of advantages in terms of higher speed, higher bandwidth, and inherent resistance to EMI/RFI and other electrical or radio interference. Fiber optics are best used for long distance communication, such as when RS-232 data must be sent to remote locations. The overhead consists of a special transmitter, the fiber optic cable, and a receiver. Note that fiber optics systems can be single-mode or multi-mode. Single-mode means a single strand of fiber for distortion-free, high-speed long distance communication. Multi-mode cable uses multi-strand fibers and is more prone to signal distortion. each cable type requires the proper transceivers. Cables can also use either bayonet-style or push-on connectors.

Any time you deal with USB, RS-232, RS-485, RS-422 or fiber optics converters, it pays to do some research and plan ahead. Companies specializing in converters often have downloadable data sheets for all of their products, and that can help tremendously in getting the proper gear.

Some Different Types of Ethernet Cables

Ethernet cables might all look alike, but you have to notice that they have different performance based on the construction. besides, the type of the wire used in constructing the cable also makes great difference. So which one matches your needs well? In this following list, you will find more information on some types of Ethernet cable. you might get the best one for your system from this list.

Cat 3 will be the first type of Ethernet cable. This is an older type which has limited work of up to 10 Mbps (megabits per second). It is not widely used outside of Voice-Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) and other kinds of voice applications. besides, Cat 3 cable also has an issue of cross-talk and interference, so it was immediately replaced with more advanced and high quality types.

Cat 5 is the second type. Better than the Cat 3, this certain cable allows you to get 10/100 Mbps of Ethernet connections. In order to reduce the interference, the cable is wrapped in different way from Cat 3 to be fewer twists per foot. Therefore, Cat 5 cable works in better performance than Cat 3 one.

Then, you can also find Cat 5e cable that is the enhanced version of Cat 5. It allows you to get 10/100/1,000 Mbps Ethernet connections which will be perfect to support internet connection in both home and business applications. This is also the most common type of Ethernet cable available in the market since it comes in lower price point and higher end.

You can also find Cat 6. It is quite similar with Cat 5e but it is less popular. This certain cable allows your network to run at almost its full speed as its main benefit. It is made the same way with Cat 5e but it is made of thicker wires.

The last type will be crossover cable. first, you need to notice that most Ethernet cables come in standard straight-though design and each end are also identical. Crossover cables come in similar design with those standard ones, but you will find that the inside order of the wires are switched. usually, people use crossover cable to bypass a router or network hub as well as to connect a certain device to another one directly. however, crossover could not be used on behalf of the standard types of Ethernet cables.

So, which cable that fits your system the most?

How would I convert RJ11 into CAT-5e?

I have a telephony modem that we just installed and I need to convert from standard RJ11 connector to a CAT-5 cable, our board that splits the phone line is wired all into CAT-5. I have a separate way to split my data into the CAT-5's, I just need to figure out how to split the voice up. thanks.

We seem to be fighting a losing battle in the correct use of terminology, but the modular connectors used for Ethernet are NOT properly designated RJ45. in fact they aren't RJ-anything.

RJ stands for "Registered Jack," and the designations originated in the 1970s in the Bell System as a means to clearly identify specific wiring configurations for phone service. The numbers refer to a specific combination of both modular plug/jack style AND its method of wiring. both RJ11 and RJ14 use the same size plugs, for example, but RJ11 is single-pair for one phone line while RJ14 is a 2-pair connection for two lines.

Since these are TelCo designations, Ethernet has never been part of the system. For some reason, "RJ45" has been hijacked to refer to the 8-way modular plugs on computer networks, despite the fact that a true RJ45 connection was in fact for a modem with adjustable transmission level, and doesn't even use the same type of plug as Ethernet.

You are mixing two different types of terminology. RJ 11 or 12 and RJ45 are types of modular connectors for jacks. an RJ11 is for two pair wire (4 connectors), and RJ 12 is for three pair wire (6 connectors) and an RJ45 (8 connectors) is for four pair wire. Category 5 and 5e are types of cable and the numbers depict the data speed transmission the cable will carry. Category 3 cable is voice grade while Cat 5, 5e and 6 are data grade. The higher the number the better the data transmission.

RJ-45 and the CAT-5 is the same thing!!

What is CAT 5 Cabling?

CAT 5 Cabling (along with CAT 5e and CAT 6 cabling) is a type of cable that carries signals.  this twisted cable is used with structured cabling, which is used in the installation of computer networks, ethernet wiring and other electronic cables.  in Houston, CAT 5 cabling is commonplace, as it is with many other large cities.  CAT 5 cables rely on the twisted design (each half of the twisted wires counterpart has a differential signal which aids in noise reduction) because they are otherwise unshielded.     in addition to this, Category 5 cables are connected using punch down blocks and other modular connectors.

All of this might sound complicated to the average person.  All you really need to know is that CAT 5 cabling and structured cabling is a must for any new phone system.  if you are looking for a reputable company to install your wiring in Houston, then call Tele Technology at 1-877-891-1911.  They will give you a fast FREE quote.  They will install your system with the correct equipment, wiring, and do the job right the first time.

Structured cabling is the way to go when building a new site.  It makes it so any piece of electronics you buy can simply be plugged in and ready to go without messy wire configuration.  Think of it this way:  the TV you buy today is made to be hooked up to any new device like a video game console, digital television, TiVo, ipod, etc…  you can’t hook any of these items up to a TV you bought 20 years ago.  Back then, it might have been called ‘cable-ready,’ but that is all that is ready for in today’s standards!  Structured cabling enables your house or office to be up-to-date for all the latest equipment for years to come.

Can I combine 2 T1 lines on 1 cat 5 cable?

We have an existing T1 line and just had another installed. Telco would not extend the T1 line to our network room. Is it possible to use the other 2 unused pairs on the existing T1 (cat 5) line so we would not have to run another cable from the network room to the demarc?
