I was actually a big fan of the Ikkitousen series back when it first came out. It was more than just an ecchi fighter where clothes explode on contact and panty shots were every third frame, the story’s pacing flowed nicely and the art was simple but well made. So far, Ikkitousen TV has thrown all that out the window. While there may still be some nice battles to be had, such as the opening segment, the quality has dropped considerably.
Both the story and art so far seem to have taken a serious dive. Ikkitousen Double D is aptly named, as ridiculously large breasts are now the main feature. The simple but nice art of the OVA has been replaced with the overly clean, doll like, lifeless modern CG. Personally, I don’t like it. This stuff is killing modern anime.
The first 8 minutes are actually rather good. Fan favorite Ryomou goes exploring in an old temple for an ancient relic, and ends up pulling her signature spine snapping ero-grappling moves on Myosai. Things only get better as the two duke it out high above the streets on neon signs. It makes me think the series may yet have some limited hope, and at least the fights will be good.
But the story is dragging so far. Everything after that is boring. A bunch of names flashed across the screen I neither care about nor will remember. It makes you wonder why anyone would get their ecchi from this anyway. Since this is a TV series rather than a OVA now, it’s obviously not going beyond PG-13. As a fan of the original, I want to see the upcoming fights — but that’s about it.
