San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) December 15, 2009

nextstop is a community effort to build a catalog of all the best things to do, places to go, and experiences to try anywhere in the world based entirely on contributions from local experts and passionate travelers.

Since the company’s launch in June 2009, nextstop users have contributed high quality recommendations in over 1000 locations around the world, including in-depth guides that highlight hidden gems in London, walking tours in San Francisco, or cheap eats in NYC. Starting today, nextstop.com will now be accessible wherever you are with the beta launch of nextstop mobile for the iPhone.

Highlights of nextstop mobile for the iPhone include:

Fast: nextstop provides a fast browsing experience that makes it easy to find great things to do near wherever you are – or around the world.

Visual: Every recommended place in nextstop has a photo, so you can find the places that look interesting without having to read a lot of text. You can easily flip through nextstop guides to quickly get a sense of what’s good to do in a new place.

Easy to Contribute: nextstop mobile makes it easy to add a new recommendation – select a category, browse through available photos (or take one with your iPhone!), and write a few words about what makes it great. You can easily share recommendations you make on Facebook or Twitter.

Built with HTML5: nextstop mobile is built using the latest HTML5 technologies to deliver a near-native experience in the iPhone browser. You can optionally install an application to take pictures from the iPhone — a technology that nextstop is open sourcing to enable other iPhone developers to push the limits of HTML5.

"We’ve always envisioned nextstop being useful for all kinds of travel." said Carl Sjogreen, co-founder of nextstop. "Whether you’re planning in advance for a larger trip, or finding something interesting between business meetings in a new city. Now with nextstop mobile for the iPhone, you can easily see what to do (or contribute what you love) wherever you are."

"We believe that HTML5 is the future for building rich mobile applications," said Adrian Graham, co-founder of nextstop. "HTML5 applications are dramatically simpler to build, freeing developers from the walled gardens of manufacturers/carriers. Although the technology is still early, it’s now possible to build HTML5 applications that rival native iPhone applications."

About nextstop: Based in San Francisco, California and founded in 2008 by a group of active travelers frustrated with the existing solutions for finding new things to do, nextstop’s mission is to make it easy and fun to discover new and authentic experiences wherever you are in the world. Whether you’re interested in great food, art, outdoor activities, or things to do with kids, nextstop helps connect you with people all over the world with similar tastes and the places and activities that they love most. With experience building and launching successful consumer products like Google Calendar and Picasa Web Albums, the founding team is excited to bring their understanding of communities and easy-to-use web products to this space.

Las Vegas, NV (Vocus) July 2, 2009

The only medical devices event that brings together materials scientists and engineers, metallurgists, product designers, researchers, and clinicians is coming to Minneapolis, Aug. 10-12.

"The Materials and Processes for Medical Devices (MPMD) event continues its tradition of presenting the state-of-the-art in biomaterials science and engineering for medical devices used to repair, replace and regenerate tissues and structures of the human body," said Jeremy L. Gilbert, Ph.D of Syracuse University, the event’s program chair.

Now in its seventh year, the MPMD Conference and Exposition is presented by ASM International, the materials information society. For more information about the MPMD event, visit asminternational

Developed for academics as well as industrial and federal researchers, the information presented at the MPMD conference will cover innovations in devices and materials science used to fabricate devices. "The MPMD event is all about the progress we’ve made to design medical devices using metallic and biodegradable plastics, bioactive ceramics, nanomaterials and biocompatible alloys," Gilbert said.

Major goals include understanding the interaction of these biomaterials with the clinical environment, and understanding the degradation effects of the human body. Materials processing and fabrication, and materials-based innovation in device design as it relates to clinical performance, will also be focused upon.

"MPMD is truly an interdisciplinary program with outstanding presenters representing clinical care, medical device development and basic materials science development for medical device applications," Gilbert said. "Our technical program brings together diverse researchers with the common goal of understanding the materials and clinical effects on the performance of new and current medical devices."

Bioactive/Biomimetic Surface and Drug Delivery Systems/Surface Engineering of Medical Devices covers advances in techniques and improved compositions for surface treatments. This session is devoted to the modification of metal, ceramic, or polymer implantable device surfaces for the improvement of functional properties.

Biostability and Biocompatibility provides data on in vitro assessment of cytotoxicity of Nitinol and Nitinol alloys, the relative roles of osteolysis and hypersensitivity by particulate debris to loosening of metal-on-metal hips, and a possible ossible approach to biofilm inhibition.

Corrosion, Fatigue and Durability of Medical Devices will address current corrosion and durability issues facing implant designers and regulators of both vascular and orthopedic implants. The effects of various manufacturing procedures, surface conditions and surface damage on the cyclic polarization, ion-leaching, and fatigue performance of implant materials will be examined.

Effect of Materials on Surgical Techniques will address the effectiveness of materials for soft and hard tissue repair, novel materials for spinal stabilization and implant fixation to bone, and continuing issues regarding tissue responses to conventional and alternate bearings.

Fabrication will include presentations covering new developments in melting, forming, and coating processes involving Ti- alloys as they pertain to microstructure evolution and properties required for medical implants and devices. Innovations in micromachining, machining, welding, and coating processes will also be covered.

The Modeling session describes the use of modeling methods to evaluate the mechanical behavior of wire and brains, modular joint design as well as perivalvular tissue response to imposed focal stress.

Nanotechnologies with a particular emphasis on composites, surfaces and laser processing will be discussed.

Potential applications of bulk-sized Nitinol components will benefit from the study of shape memory recovery and superelasticity of bulk-dimensioned Nitinol material, while a presentation on R-phase transformation and its effects on practical stent design, and an application of a hepatic vein occluder for controlling bleeding during liver resection surgery will be featured.

This year’s Materials R&D presentations encompass five sessions on new metal and ceramic materials for biomedical applications; mechanical properties and processing of titanium alloys; characterization of active biomedical materials and tissues; optimization of active biomedical materials and tissues; optimization of alloys and processing for wire and tubular applications; and materials processing and reliability.

A Regulatory Affairs session provides information on status of Chinese device regulations, issues related to litigation of approved devices and safety of MRI visualization of implant pathology in presence of device.

The Materials and Processes for Medical Devices Exposition on Aug. 11-12 complements the unique, focused nature of the conference. "Unlike other expositions serving the medical device sector, MPMD was not created to be the biggest event, nor was our goal to cover all aspects of medical devices," Gilbert said. "Instead, we have created a targeted event focusing on materials, testing, and processing related to medical devices, that his is where MPMD excels."

For more information and to register for the MPMD event, visit asminternational or call ASM Customer Service at # , ext. 0, or # , ext. 0.

To fill the knowledge gap between the innovators who design medical devices and the engineers who best understand materials and their capabilities, ASM International launched its Materials & Processes for Medical Devices (MPMD) initiative in 2003.

The growing need for reliable materials information by the medical devices community has resulted in a growing number of new events and services, including the Materials for Medical Devices Database, MPMD seminars and the MPMD Conference. For more information, visit asminternational

Austin, TX (PRWEB) March 18, 2013

Prepper checklist guidelines reflect some of the biggest considerations for personal safety and security, according to a recent SurvivalLIfe.com article. Above Average Joe, the Managing Editor of SurvialLife.com, knows this all too well, and has devoted his latest Special Report to helping people fill the holes in their emergency readiness plans.

The Preppers Playbook is Survival Lifes latest addition to the survivalist library, and its offering the instantly-downloadable e-book to readers and followers of its website and online community. The article said the Preppers Playbook mirrors the overall sentiment shared by contributors, site visitors, and Joe himself. Being prepared is the only way to face the possibility of a disaster, and establishing a plan is the first important step in the process, said the article.

Survival Life devotes its content and offers to enabling and informing the concerned survivalist, no matter what their vulnerabilities may be. The Preppers Playbook describes the three main categories of disaster, and explains in detail what is needed to survive each one. Everybodys situation is different, and the article said that customizing and tweaking a plan to fit individual and family needs is the best way to approach a prepper strategy.

Recovery periods are smoother and safer when a well-constructed and executed plan dictates what people do, according to the article. The survival strategies in Preppers Playbook will show how easy that can be.

Joe and the Survival Life team know the value of such a comprehensive checklist, which is why the Preppers Playbook will only be offered for a limited time. Its believed by the experts behind Survival Life that those who procrastinate on accessing the Special Report are the ones who wouldnt take their preparations seriously. Thats why the downloadable report will only be available until March 18, 2013, the article said.

SurvivalLife.com is a non-politically biased source that is geared toward the survival side of prepping. Subscriptions to the Newsletter bring all of the latest information from SurvivalLife.com straight to readers inboxes.

Whether readers need wilderness survival tips or strategies to plan for an urban disaster, SurvivalLife.com covers it all. Well on its way to becoming a preeminent member of the survival blog-o-sphere, SurvivalLife.com is contributing to the conversation and hopes readers do as well.

Readers and followers of the Preppers Playbook suggestions will be taking an active role in the assurance of their future, and that of their loved ones. The online article said to claim the knowledge and skill needed and complete a thorough prepper checklist by accessing the Special Report today.

Fayetteville, NC (Vocus) December 23, 2009

As Kenneth Rivers wound down his military career, he was incredibly positive about his future as a part time owner of a web development company. Rivers, a Special Forces operator and Green Beret found an online article outlining the success of a similar brother in arms, a former infantry officer turned tech CEO, Clarence Briggs. Briggs, the founder of AIT, Inc. (AIT) has paved the way as a shining example of success from startup to a fourteen year industry domain registration and web hosting incumbent. The story of Briggs and AIT provided enough motivation for Rivers to ignite his own entrepreneurship and the pursuit of his lifelong dream to become a business owner.

“We love stories like this,” said Avery Skelton VP of Sales and Marketing for AIT, a two time Inc. 500 Company and D&T Fast 500 Award Recipient. “Given that 80% percent of the company is prior military, it’s always fulfilling to see those who have served in the armed forces come to us and say that they have been inspired to start their own company based on the AIT story,” continued Skelton, who is also a veteran who has served with the U.S. Armed Forces.

Several years the company moved into a 5,000 square foot building. The company now with customers in over one hundred and seven countries is owns and operates a 93,000 square foot facility and Data Center located in Fayetteville, NC.

“Like most of our resellers, I was working a full time job, coming home and putting in eight to ten hours at night and on the weekends. It wasn’t easy but a little tenacity goes along way.” Said Briggs. “The thing that made us different from other web hosting companies is a fanatical commitment to customer service and our web hosting and domain name reseller programs. We’ve always tried to keep the entrepreneurial spirit alive, developing products and services for corporate clients as well as those who are working part time from home-based startups,” continued Briggs. “Small businesses are the key to any free enterprise economy and they are a key part of our client portfolio,” said Briggs.

Rivers claims the Hosting Reseller Programs of AIT were the perfect answer to the transition his military career to the civilian world. “I was actually working my new business part time while still in the military,” said Rivers. “AIT provides the solid foundation that has made my company successful. Our latest project, WACommerce.org is a hosted economic development tool which helps the local community to keep local dollars local by empowering area businesses with a simple tool to find contracts and subcontracting opportunities at both the municipal, state, and federal level” continued Rivers. Wacommerce.org is hosted by AIT and is powered by the company’s proprietary technology, GovTide™ which has a proven track record in North Carolina branded as MatchForce.org.

Rhonda Perkins, shares the enthusiasm of Rivers as she has recently resigned from her position as a purchaser of government products to dedicate full time to her business which specializes in Internet Marketing and web design services. “I realized that I wasn’t going to be able to learn how to be a server administrator overnight so I started researching companies that specialize in managed reseller hosting and dedicated servers,” said Perkins. I found AIT nine months ago and since then I’ve tripled my revenue due to all of the private label web hosting services offered by AIT. I also signed up to be my own Domain Name Registrar at AITdomains AITs email marketer application has added an entire new bundle of Internet Marketing solutions to my portfolio.” Said Perkins. “I will hire my third full time employee within the next month.” Said Perkins.

AIT’s reseller web hosting programs have lead the way for many small businesses to flourish. The Web Host and Domain Registration Company recently announced a large discount on its core line of hosting plans including fully managed, dedicated servers that give anyone with a computer and an internet connection the ability to start reselling or hosting their websites for less than the cost of an average monthly utility bill. All AIT plans include over 100 free, private label services such as a web site builder and shopping cart.

Most audiophiles can’t tell the difference in the sound quality between coaxial cables and optical digital cables (S/PDIF). This article will explain when each should be used and their pros and cons.

If you’re looking for a heightened audio experience whether you’re listening to your favourite music collection or viewing your favourite movie through your home theater system, the first requirement you must fulfill is having the right audio cables and connectors.

The right audio cables and connectors these days mean cables and connectors of the digital type. Digital audio cables are manufactured with a primary aim – to provide the best quality audio signal which means preserving the original audio signal quality. To this end, there are two kinds of audio cables manufactured for this purpose – coaxial digital cables and optical digital cables.

Audio Coaxial Digital Cables

Coaxial digital cables are popularly used for digital audio signal transmission. They look no different from RCA cables which many would have used to connect their VCR or DVD players to their television sets.

The difference between RCA cables and coaxial cables are the latter are much thicker and are shielded in similar fashion to cable TV coaxial cables. The thicker shielding is important to keep out external signal interference. The aluminum wraps do a good job to that end.

The wires are contained in a strong durable outer covering. In the case of coaxial cables used for digital audio signal transmission, there’s an imledance of 75 ohm, which tolerates a high amount of energy. Coaxial cables are affordable, yet deliver premium quality digital audio signal. As such they are very popular among audio buffs.

Optical Digital Audio Cables

Optical digital audio cables look very different than coaxial cables. In place of the copper wire in coaxial cables, they utilize light pulses to transmit audio data. The advantage of an optical cable is that they are free from electromagnetic and radio-frequency interference. If you have to make a long-distance connection for some reason, rest assured that audio signals transmitted through them don’t degrade no matter how long the cable is. The optimum reproduction of audio signals is also assured because optical digital cables are immune to distortion caused by resistance, capacitance and inductance.

Which Digital Audio Cables Should You Choose?

For beginners it could be a difficult task deciding whether to choose a coaxial or an optical cable. You may not be able to tell the difference in audio quality the two cables produce. Furthermore, your audio system, more often than not, allows support for both types of connections.

As a general rule, you should choose optical cables as they are immune to electromagnetic interference, especially when they are in close proximity to computers or near power cords that emit radio frequency noise.

Also, if you need long distance digital audio signal transmission, you would want to go optical. Say for instance if you need speakers to be placed about 20 to 30 feet away from your audio system, optical cables would do a good job in minimizing audio signal loss. If there’s a need for you to bend your audio cables owing to the nature of your audio system set up, then coaxial digital cables would be your choice.

Staring an online business at home is more than exciting. The hopes for profits, development and growth, however, can often lead to exactly the opposite. What you need to succeed is hard work and guidance on how to get a head start.

An idea and preliminary research are the first two things you need to start a business at home. You have to have a clear idea of what product or service you will provide and how. You have to do the necessary research to define your target market. These are the consumers you will be selling your product or service to. You have to research the competition as well. The research you carry out will help you decide whether to start a venture.

A business plan is the second thing you need for developing a successful and profitable venture. You should not assume that such a plan is only for large companies. It will be your general guide to development and growth.

Determine the purpose of your online business at home. Define your vision for the future. Decide where you want your venture to be in one year’s time, in five years’ time and in ten years’ time. Use this vision to set realistic goals. Then devise step by step mini plans for achieving these goals. Make sure you can allocate the necessary resources necessary for achieving each one of the set goals.

A marketing plan is another fundamental thing you need to get started. While the first plan is necessary to help you develop your online business at home, this one will help you run it and profit from it. A marketing plan is a strategy for promoting and selling your product.

Base your marketing plan on four factors. These are product, pricing, place and promotion. You have to figure out what your product will be like and how to package it so that it can sell well. You have to come up with a pricing strategy that will allow you to get good sales. Place has to do with where you will sell the product. Promotion encompasses everything from product advertising to press releases.

Investment is one of the most important factors you need for starting an online business at home. You have to decide how much money you need to invest in your venture and how much you can take out of your pocket. If you have to get financing from somewhere else, you have to consider the different options. It is also important for you to figure out how much time and work you will invest in your venture. As a novice internet entrepreneur, you have to find the right balance between your regular job and your online venture.

A website is the main technical thing you need to start an online business at home. Irrespective of the nature of your venture, you have to set up its virtual office. Find a domain name and register it first. You can build your own website using different paid and free tools and pay for hosting as well. You can have all of this done for you by a company. Choose the best option in line with your budget and business plan.

Registration, licenses and permits are other important things you need. Provided that you generate profits, you will have to pay taxes. If you are selling or marketing specific types of products, you may need special licenses and permits. Make sure you arrange all legal matters before you get started.

This is what you need to start an online business at home. You should work hard and smart in order to develop your venture. Remember that development is the key to success.

Installing a printer on a network can be tricky, even for the computer savvy. What starts as simple task for someone who has minimal, but enough, printer and networking experience can end up costing days of work. For those not exceptionally familiar with all the terms out there regarding network printer setup it can be difficult to find information that will help. There are few resources out there that put information about network printers into layman’s terms, this is one of them.

What is a Network Printer?

To be clear, “network printer” is just a term that indicates the printer will be available to other computers on a network. A “network” is the term used to indicate a group of computers that are connected by either physical cables or a wireless router. A “router” is a box that has a bunch of connection points (ports) that can join all the different aspects of a network; computers, Internet access, printers, fax machines, etc. Why network? Well, it saves time and money for most people. It also allows the sharing and collaboration of files with someone at a different computer or location.

Use One of Two Methods to Set Up a Network Printer

There are two ways to setup a network printer. The first method uses a direct connection to a computer and the other uses a connection to a router.

Method One: Connected to a Computer (Print Server)

The first and most common way to setup a network printer is to use a print server. A print server is a computer that is directly connected to the printer. Other computers on the network can then send files to the printer by accessing the computer to which it is installed. This method is most common because it can be used with most types of printers. The instructions below assume the network itself is already established.

Method One Instructions:

Turn off the computer that will be the print server.

Plug the printer into a power outlet.

Plug the USB cable or IEEE cable to the printer and the other end to the back of the computer. (click the links above for an image of each cable)

Turn the printer on and then turn the computer back on.

In Windows XP, click START and then click Printers and Faxes

Click ADD A PRINTER.

Follow the wizard prompts to install the printer by selecting the “local printer” option.

Select NO when prompted to share this printer. It will be shared by repeating these steps on each computer that needs to access the printer.

On every other computer, run the wizard as before. Select “locate a local printer” and browse to the other computer. Select the printer you installed on the print server. Print a test page. If after installing the printer to the print server, it’s not listed on the network at another computer just restart that computer. Usually this resolves the issue and the Print Wizard can be ran again.

Method Two: Connected to a Router

The other way to setup a network printer is without a typical print server. This method is a little trickier because it requires setting up the printer network through a router. It’s a lot more involved than the traditionally print server setup and can cause other problems if configured incorrectly. This method also requires that the printer in question is equipped with a network card and Ethernet cable. A network card is a little chip in the printer that tells it how to send information across the network. Most home printers are not network ready; they do not come equipped with the network card.

There are a couple matters of business to take care of before installing a printer using this method. First, you need to know that your printer has a network card. The easiest way to discern this information is to see what kind of cable is available to connect it to the network. If It’s an Ethernet cable (Click to see a photo. It looks like a phone cable, but wider.) then it is probably network ready. If it has a USB cable or IEEE cable, it is likely not network ready and using this method will require more equipment. (Usually, you’ll need a print hub.)

Before installing the printer, you will need to know the IP address that the printer is using on the router. An IP (Internet protocol) address tells the computer where to find the printer on your network since it’s not connected to a computer directly. This information is usually listed on a sticker on the printer itself, so check there first. If not, most network printers can print the information. Look for a “print configuration” option. Since there are so many types of routers and printers, consult your printer and router documentation to find this information.

Once you have verified that the printer is network ready, follow these steps to install and set it up.

Method Two Instructions:

Plug the printer into a power outlet.

Plug the Ethernet cable to the printer and the other end to an open port on the router.

Turn the printer on and set it up on the first computer. (You’ll repeat these steps for each computer.)

In Windows XP, click START and then click Printers and Faxes

Click ADD A PRINTER.

Select LOCAL PRINTER and UNSELECT “automatically detect my plug and play printer”.

Click next.

Select “Create a New Port” and select “TCP/IP Port”

Enter the IP Address of the Printer and Click next.

If the IP is right, the wizard will find the printer. If it’s wrong, it will ask you input port information. Simply hit the back button and verify the IP address. Alternately, you may simple select “generic network card” and click next.

Click Finish.

Now you will be prompted to select a device driver. A “driver”, put simply, is the software that tells the computer how to communicate with the printer.

Select NO when prompted to share this printer. It will be shared by repeating these steps on each computer that needs to access the printer.

Click Finish to Print a test page.

Barring any unexpected troubles, you’re printer should be ready. Just repeat the Add Printer Wizard on each computer. In case of any trouble, check out tech forums and message boards across the web. Sites like Computerhope.com and Printertechsforum.com offer great insight from industry experts. A lot of site require membership to post questions, but you can browse existing posts freely.
