Satoshi and friends drop by the castle Lohta, where a grand festival and battle to honor the hero of legend is being held. After a few quick bouts, Pikachu quickly comes out on top and Satoshi gets to be the hero at the ceremony. After holding the Hero’s staff however, the hero’s long sealed pokemon Lucario is released and a mystery to solve the events of the past unfolds.

Compared to some of the other movies in the series, Pokemon: Lucario and the Mystery of Mew is actually one of the better among them. For one thing, there’s really no central villain this time around. Team Rocket is present, but like in all the other Pokemon movies, they’re mainly just around for the ride. The mischievous Mew and an overzealous adventurer causes a small bit of trouble, but neither means any real harm.
