Not really sure what to make of Ghost Hound yet. Decided to give it a try based on the involvement of Chiaki Konaka as screenplay writer and Ryutaro Nakamura as director, both key figures in Serial Experiments Lain in the same roles. I’m a pretty big fan of many of Chiaki Konaka’s projects, including Big O, Armitage III, and of course Lain. Add in the fact that the concept is by the legendary Masamune Shirow, and it’s pretty much something I at least have to check out.

So far the series is rather painfully slow paced, but that’s not much of a surprise. Not much is revealed in the first episode, but apparently the story has to do with an electronic brain, overlapping worlds, and reality and the dream world overlapping or some such things. The usual brain benders Konaka is known for. The animation is good, the characters seem a bit bland but otherwise likable, and the pacing builds a lot of suspense. Too early to say if the series is worth sticking with, but I’m curious to see what happens so I’ll be waiting to find out.
