The highly popular manga of the same name makes its way into anime. In this first episode, we meet Light and watch as he discovers the Death Note and its fearsome powers. The Death Note’s owner, the shinigami Ryuk then shows up and explains all we need to know about the little black notebook and how he dropped it in the human world as an attempt to relieve his sheer boredom.
This first episode is not too thrilling, as they have to eat up a lot of time with introductions and explanations. Also there’s nothing opposing Light yet, so we’re just watching him do as he maniacally pleases with no challenge or obstruction. But hey, it’s a first episode - they’re like that sometimes.
